Entity extraction has been around for well over 25 years. The industry originated from mid-to-large sized Federal integrators to provide solution-based offerings to mainly the US Federal Government. Over time, the Federal market began to desire commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software over solution-based offerings, so many of these integrators created COTS offerings. Integrators are not product companies and tend to have a difficult time competing with pure product vendors in terms of innovation and speed to market. Pure commercial COTS vendors don't often understand the nuances of government acquisitions.
